A yet to be ascertained number of passengers left injured and a stranded as train belonging to the Nigerian Railway Commission derailed off track on Sunday.
Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the Itakpe-bound train missed the tracks and climbed on the sideway rocks.
The incident happened somewhere between Ajaokuta and Itakpe in Kogi State.
One of the passengers identified as Gandy Wisdom, told Daily Report Nigeria that the front couches climbed unto the rocks with the occupants sustaining various injuries.
Many passengers were also said to have abandoned the train over fear of being kidnapped by bandits.
It was gathered that the train left Warri early on Sunday morning and got derailed at about 12:noon inside the thick forest between Ajaokuta and Itakpe.
The source revealed that four coaches and the head coach of the train are badly damaged beyond repair.
The up to 300 stranded passengers were told by the officials of the Nigeria Railway Corporation to remain calm and sit back in the train while they mobilised for help.
The derailing of the train was attributed to activities of suspected terrorists cutting the rail line.
