Herbert Wigwe, Wife, Son Buried in Rivers

Herbert Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, and son Chizzy, have been buried in their hometown of Omueke, Isiokpo in Rivers State.

The late Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Holdings Plc, along with his wife and son, received a private interment following the funeral church service.

The burial ceremonies spanned a week, celebrating the lives of the late banking guru, his wife, and their son.

The funeral service for the esteemed banker and philanthropist commenced promptly at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 9.

Mourners, including friends, associates, and well-wishers from both local and international communities, gathered to pay their final respects.

Distinguished guests in attendance included Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory; Nyesom Wike, Business leader Aliko Dangote, and HRH Muhammadu Sanusi II.

Others were Gov Alex Otti, Gov Dapo Abiodun, Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Gov Babajide Sawno-Olu, Former Anambra State Gov Peter Obi, amongst other notable captains of industry

Top dignitaries also present included Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara and State Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu, who served as the Chief Security Officer (CSO) for the burial ceremony.

Also, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State and Dr Godknows Igali, a former Nigerian diplomat, attended the funeral.

The tragic incident involving Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe, along with former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, and two pilots occurred when their Airbus Helicopter EC 130B4 with registration number N130CZ crashed near Halloran Springs, California, on February 9, 2024.

While the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, a preliminary report from the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), released two weeks ago, indicated that witnesses in vehicles observed the chopper as a “fireball” before its eventual crash.
