A court in Lokoja, Kogi State, has ordered the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to stop infringing on the human rights of Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State.
The judgment was delivered on Wednesday, at the High Court 4 and presided over by Hon Justice I A Jamil.
According to Jamil, the EFCC should not arrest, detain, or prosecute Bello except as authorized by the court.
The court’s order followed an earlier interim injunction. It also ordered that the EFCC should stop persecuting Bello.

Earlier in the judgement, the court dismissed the issue of jurisdiction as challenged by the EFCC.
The applicant’s counsel, SA Abbas and MS Yusuf described the judgment as a landmark.
However, the defendant’s counsel,
T U Odima and Patrick O Jibril aligned themselves to the judgment, describing it as thorough.
