Delta 2023: PDP on a Tight Rope to Make or Mar Itself

Delta 2023: PDP on a Tight Rope to Make or Mar Itself | Daily Report Nigeria

– Is Esiso the Danger Point?

As the build to the much talked 2023 electioneering processes are gathering momentum in Delta State, there is no doubt that the political atmosphere is charged. The ruling Party in the State is in the epic centre of this heated political discourse as the rival interests, especially from the different ethnic groups or Senatorial Districts are skimming for the Governorship seat.

From all indications, the PDP is on a tight rope of success for it to midwife the next transition process in the State. The State Party Chairman, Olorogun (Barr.) Kingsley Esiso and the Governor of the State, His Excellency, Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa are the centre piece of the Party’s survival in the next transition process.

2023 Presidency: No Zoning Arrangement in APC – Senate Chief Whip

Only their neutrality will survive PDP for another political dispensation in Delta State. We hope that Governor Okowa will avoid the mistake of some of his colleague governors in the neighboring States.

The statement accredited to the State Party Chairman, Olorogun (Barr.) Kingsley Esiso that PDP zoning is by Senatorial Districts and not by tribe seems that his neutrality is in serious doubt. The PDP as a Party which is imbedded in the tenets of democratic ideals do not need a Chairman who will not sit on the fence in rival political contest. Esiso’s ethnic card will not do the Party any good in Delta State.

The Executive Assistant to the Governor on Communication, Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq who is now operating as a self-appointed media adviser to Urhobo people’s Governorship agenda should inform himself of the embargo placed on political appointees to refrain from talking about 2023 yet. Governor Okowa should take note of this clear breach of his directive by his own appointee who is hitherto his mouth piece in the Government.

The Delta South as the beautiful bride to the State both in economic contributions and voting strength may be forced to seek for convenient platforms if the PDP State Chairman and Governor Okowa refuse to be neutral in the next Governorship election. We fear that Kingsley Esiso may be the Danger Point or the last straw that breaks the camel’s back.

We make bold to say that there has not been any zoning formula in the PDP since 1999 on the basis of Senatorial Districts. Zoning formula comes after the Governorship candidate is chosen by the Party. If we are lying then why has the Urhobo people from the Delta Central contested against people from the other Senatorial Districts in the PDP since 2007 after Chief James Onanefe Ibori finished Urhobo/Delta Central’s turn in 2003?

Is it Urhobo people’s exclusive preserve to contest the Governorship election in all the elections even when the office is supposed to be zoned to another Senatorial District? Esiso and Fred should answer these questions.

No Senatorial District is more politically valuable than the others. We are all equal stakeholders in the State project. After all, Delta South remains the beautiful bride. Are we only good at contributing economic wealth to bolster the State economy and as well be the source of victory to the PDP in elections but not too good to rule the State?

For the Party to survive the next decisive electioneering processes, Governor Okowa should not only be seen neutral but he should also call Kingsley Esiso to order before he jeopardises the chances of our continues victories in Delta State PDP. A stitch in time saves nine.
