Fire Razes Mosque, Shops at Popular Rimi Market in Kano

A minimum of 19 shops have been gutted by a fire outbreak at the popular Rimi market in the Kano Municipal Local Government Area, Kano State.

The inferno also consumed a mosque that was situated right inside the market on Wednesday afternoon.

Eye witnesses say the incident which occured at about 1pm on wiped out goods and properties worth hundreds of millions.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi said their control room received an emergency call at about 01:46pm, from one Ahmad Tijjani, about the incident at Rimi market.

Abdullahi noted that fire fighters from the Kano Central Fire Station and Audu Bako Secretariat, succeeded in putting out the fire.

“They found that, about fourteen (14) Permanent Shops, One (1) Mosque and Five (5) temporary Shops engulfed by fire. The area of blaze is about 75 X 50 ft use as Rimi Market shops,” he said.

The Public Relations Officer added that no casualty was recorded during the unfortunate incident.
