FLOOD: 200 Families Displaced In Rivers | Daily Report Nigeria

Many people have been left displaced following an heavy flood in rivers state.

Residents of Rumaholu-Nkpolu Pipeline Area of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have cried out for help, after being displaced by food.

Speaking to Punch Metro on Tuesday, October 22, a resident said the flood haa displaced over 200 families.

 

Speaking further,the resident said he had guest experienced a flood like this in 2017, after some people built houses on the waterways.

Another resident, who identified himself as Thomas said most families were forced to leave their homes after finding snakes and other reptiles coming out of their houses.

 

He stated,

“If you follow me now into each house that had been abandoned, you will find about six snakes.

During the night, if you don’t have any torchlight especially while coming down from the staircase, you will see snakes. Sometimes, almost we step on the snakes and that is why most of us ran away.”

Also, a female resident who pleaded anonymity blamed the flood on resident owners who built properties on the canals.

She also called on the government to come to their aid.

“We are calling on the Rivers State Government to help build an underground drainage in this area. We use boats to paddle into our houses,” she explained tearfully.

We left the house and locked the place. But before we came back, they looted everything from my house. We are just starting all over again.” she added
