Acting Chairman of the DICC, Comrade Welemu Williams in press release on Thursday, lamented the spike in gruesome murder of innocent Deltans by gunmen in recent times.
He called on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to see to it that drastic measures are instituted without further delay, to curb the situation.
Describing the late Douye Saviour Seifere as a dogged comrade of the struggle, Welemu charged security operatives to bring perpetrators of the gruesome murder to face the wrath of the law.
He said;
“This is a clear indication of the high level of insecurity in the Nigerian state. The federal government who it behooves on to protect the lives and properties of citizen in the state has failed us.”
“How can anybody just come out from anywhere and shoot anybody dead? Do we live in a Banana Republic? It is very worrisome and we should begin to look for a way out.”
“Now, a comrade has been killed same way a girl was killed in Udu road and perpetrators of the act who are known killers are yet to be served justice.”
“Douye’s death is a pointer to the bitter truth that we need to re-strategize, we need to go back to the drawing board. And as a matter of fact, justice must be taken very seriously in this state.”
“I am calling on security operatives in the state to swing into action, initiate proper investigation and bring perpetrators to book. We cannot continue like this,” he cried out.
Douye is one of many young and vibrant youths whose lives have been cut short by men of the underworld in recent times.
Less than two weeks ago, a flag bearer of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP in the forthcoming local government elections was killed while returning from a screening exercise in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
Also, President of the Anti-cult Volunteers Corps in Delta state, Amb Austyn Emu was killed under gruesome circumstances by gunmen in Kwale area of the state.
