GYC Mobile Parliament Calls For Sitting Over Tenure Extension of Executives

The Mobile Parliament of the Gbaramatu Youth Council has called for an emergency sitting.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the call for the sitting followed the elongation of tenure of the Shadrack Ebikeme-led executives of the GYC by 18 month.

The sitting is billed for 10am on Wednesday October 25, 2023 at the Casa De Pedro Hotel, Refinery Road, Effurun, Delta State.

In a statement signed by Speaker of the Parliament, Frank Ekpemupolo and Clerk, Mayor Ipopo Present, the Parliament faulted the move to extend the tenure of the executives, describing it as detrimental.

The announcement titled “GYC MOBILE PARLIAMENT CALL FOR EMERGENCY SITTING OVER GYC EXECUTIVES TENURE ELONGATION DECISION,” read in full;

“It important for the Parliament make it known to the general public that the resolution of the tenure elongation reached by the GYC executive was never the position of the GYC MOBILE PARLIAMENT.

“Parliament is calling on all stakeholders and zones of Gbaramatu Youths Council to be calm and wait for the its position on the above reached resolution.

“Tenure of elected officials of GYC is a constitutional issue which must be addressed constitutionally, hence, Parliament sees the decision of the elongation move as a detrimental one.

“Therefore, Parliament has resolved to call for an emergency sitting over the issue with the following schedule:

“This is to inform all GYC parliamentarians that, there shall be an emergency sitting to discuss crucial issues of parliament and council. It is important all parliamentarians make appearance on the aforesaid date.

“Date: Wednesday 25/10/2023
Time: 10am prompt
Venue: Casa De Pedro Hotel, Refinery Road Effurun- Warri.”

According to a report seen by our correspondent on Saturday, the decision to extend the tenure of the GYC was premised on ‘performance and service excellence’.

The decision was reached during an emergency meeting of stakeholders and youth presidents of various communities held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Casa De Pedro Annex along Refinery Road in Warri.
