All chapter heads of the IYC, otherwise referred to as Clan Chairman are expected to make submissions to their Zonal Chairman, who is required to make a final and authenticated submission to the IYC 2020 Electoral Committee.

A final delegate list is to be preceded by a selection exercise according to the IYC 2020 Electoral Committee.

The Electoral Committee also stated that a new date for the IYC 2020 elections will be announced in the near future.

The memo reads;
This is to inform the Zones and Chapters of Council to submit their list of delegates (with two passport photographs each ) on or before June 7th, 2020.

Please kindly adhere strictly to the nominations/selection procedures of the Zones and Chapters.

Note: the Chairman of each Zone and Chapter shall submit the list after the nomination/selection exercise.

A new date of the elections shall be announced after the ongoing screening of aspirants.
Please, stay safe.

It would be recalled that the Electoral Committee had indefinitely suspended all activities for the IYC 2020 elections following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

The emergence of the lethal virus which made the Nigerian Federal Government to implement a lockdown order, banning social gatherings and large meetings also forced the ELECO to tow that path as a preventive measure against the spread of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Committee has successfully concluded screening exercise for aspirants in Eastern and Central Zones.

Screening exercise for aspirants in Western Zone is billed for Saturday, May 30th, 2020.

The IYC 2020 elections have been preceded by various worrisome events and many more look set unfold even as the elections approaches.

The supposed selected venue for the elections, Oporoza in Gbaramatu Kingdom has been a bone of contention as many quarters have called for a new venue entirely.

To add salt to injury, the leadership of Oporoza community also denied being aware of hosting an event of such magnitude with a public letter signed by its chairman, Demebi Izirimi Johnbull on April 6th.

Another notable event was the unexpected withdrawal of presidential aspirant, Sammy George, who was touted by many to be the eighth executive president of the Ijaw Youth Council, Worldwide.

Sammy averred that his withdrawal was purely in pursuance of the greater peace of Ijaw Nation and made himself available for consultations from the Ijaw Youth Council. He was among thirteen aspirants from the Eastern Zone meant to slug it out for the coveted crown. His withdrawal has left just twelve aspirants to vie for the office of President of Council.
