Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State Signs anti-open grazing bill to law

Delta State Governor, Sen Ifeanyi Okowa has signed the Delta State Livestock, Breeding, Rearing, and Marketing Regulation Bill 2021 into law.

Also signed into law on Thursday morning is the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill 2020

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who was accompanied by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ochor Ochor, Lyna Ocholor Esq Clerk of the House, and other principal officers of the legislature presented the bills to the governor.

The Deputy Governor Barr Kingsley Otuaro, Secretary to the State Government Chief Patrick Ukah, Chief of Staff Rt Hon Festus Agas, and others attended the ceremony at the State Government House Asaba.

Delta has now joined Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Enugu, Ondo states in signing the anti-open grazing bill to law.

Recall that Southern Governors Forum had unanimously agreed to ban open grazing in a bid to put a final halt to clashes between farmers and herders.

The meeting where the agreement was reached was first held in Asaba as September 1 was picked as the deadline for all states to pass the anti-open grazing law.

Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has already dumped the open grazing system in Ondo while embracing the feedlot system introduced by the Ondo State Government as an alternative method to rear livestock.
