The Catholic priest in charge of Ruai St Peters has died after checking into the hotel accompanied by a female detective who police said was his girlfriend in Kenya.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that the deceased priest identified as Father Joseph Kariuki Wanjiku died during a night out with his lover.

43-year-old Wanjiku was pronounced dead after his girlfriend and hotel staff rushed him to hospital on the morning of Saturday, July 8.

A police report stated that they stayed at the Monalisa Hotel Delview in Gatanga on Friday night, but on the morning of Saturday, July 8, he began to feel unwell.

The report said:

Then, this morning (Saturday) at around 0800hrs, the priest’s girlfriend notified the hotel management that the boyfriend was dizzy and getting unconscious so that they could rush him to the hospital.

“They then rushed him to Kenol hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

The Catholic Father was pronounced dead as he sat in the car that took him to the hospital.

Police who were called to the scene found the body in the back seat of the car, half covered by a hotel sheet, with white foam coming from the mouth and nose.

The police said:

The body moved to mater hospital mortuary Nairobi under the escort of police officer pending autopsy and further police action.”

As the investigation continued, reports stated the food and drink the duo had on their cozy evening has been taken for probe.

After news of his unexplained death broke, Kenyans mourned the fallen priest.

While some Kenyans mourned the Catholic priest on social media, many explained they could not judge him.

Tina Kaloki said:

Condolences to his family and the church. Rest in peace, priest.”

Faith K Mwania said:

He was such a good preacher; he used to visit our church in Donholm.”
