Labour Party: Faction Elects Peter Obi’s Ex-Aide Presidential Candidate

It’s tension and confusion in the Labour Party (LP), as the crisis rocking it deepened on Wednesday as a faction led by Calistus Uju Okafor elected Chief Digar Ezenwafor as its presidential candidate.

Recall that the Julius Abure-led faction of LP, had earlier elected a former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.

However, in a sudden twist of event, Ezenwafor, who is a former Anambra chairman of the party, was elected at a National Convention of the factional body in Abuja on Wednesday.

Ezenwafor was the Chief of Protocol to Peter Obi during his first term as governor of Anambra State.

Speaking to the party’s delegates, he said: “I am on a rescue mission to free Nigerians from social, economic and political crises currently bedevilling it.”

Ezenwafor stated that having understudied two former Anambra Governors and being the chairman of the party in the State, he had what it takes to lead Nigeria to economic freedom.

“We are not after experiences in the executive office because those who were there before and had requisite experiences had failed us,”

He further claimed that being a young man with energy and vigour, he had a brighter chance of defeating the presidential candidates of other political parties
