The Federal Ministry of Education has firmly denied recent media reports suggesting that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

“At no point did the Ministry issue or authorise any statement indicating that JAMB is no longer mandatory for tertiary institution admissions,” Dr. Alausa stated.

He emphasised that JAMB remains the legally empowered body for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admission processes into all Nigerian tertiary institutions. According to him, the existing admission structure through JAMB is still “fully operational” and will continue to serve as the official channel for all tertiary admissions in the country.

The Minister reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering partnership with JAMB and other relevant educational bodies to maintain transparency, merit, and fairness in the admission system. He added that every admission process must strictly adhere to due process and uphold the principles of equal opportunity.

“The Ministry remains fully committed to protecting the credibility of the admission process and ensuring that merit and fairness are never compromised,” he said.

Dr. Alausa also used the opportunity to warn journalists, bloggers, and online platforms against spreading unverified information that could mislead the public and cause confusion within the education sector. He urged the media to verify facts from official government sources before publishing any report related to education policies.

The statement further advised students, parents, and institutions to depend solely on the official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate information.

“There has been no change in JAMB’s role; it remains a central and indispensable part of Nigeria’s tertiary education framework,” the Minister reaffirmed.

The Ministry encouraged members of the public to visit the official websites and verified social media accounts of both the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates on admission procedures and education reforms.
