Obidigwe, a retired former civil servant, said his family beat him constantly. “But what caused this particular incident is that my daughter, Ozioma, sold my firewood without my consent and when I tried to find out why she did it, they pounced on me, tied me up and used a rod to injure me,” he said.

He also disclosed that the trio had not fed him since the incident and that they usually stole from him, especially his first son, Obuka, who had gone to the local government to seek compensation.

During interrogations, Obuka denied being present when the incident happened, while Esther confessed to the crime. Ozioma claimed that she was the one her father wanted to kill.
