New Naira Notes: Sowore Demands CBN Governor's Sack | Daily Report Nigeria

Following the news on re-signing of some naira notes, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Muhammadu to sack the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

The presidential candidate said the apex bank governor should be sacked with immediate effect.

He argued that the CBN ought to look for ways to boost the value of the naira, rather than redesign it.

Reacting to the development via a tweet, Sowore wrote:

“Central Bank of Nigeria to redesign banknotes 200, 500 and 1000 notes instead of boosting the value of the Naira. Jokers!

“Me: It is time to fire the CBN Governor, Emefiele #WeCantContinueLikeThis.”

Daily Report Nigeria recalls that the CBN had announced it would launch the redesigned naira notes on December 15, 2022.

Emefiele said the new currencies to be launched are N1,000, N500, and N200 notes.

The governor further urged Nigerians to take their old notes to banks in exchange for new ones.
