Suspected Fulani herdsmen dressed in military attire and armed to the teeth have taken over 2nd Abumere Ojigbelu Camp, in Ovia Northeast Local Government Area of Edo State. community in Edo State.

The incident which happened on Sunday, January 2, 2022, saw the herdsmen chasing away the villagers and taking over their farmlands, homes, and properties.

2. IPOB bans cows, National Anthem in Southeast

The Indigenous People of Biafra have imposed a ban on cows reared by Fulani herdsmen in the South East.

The outlawed group also banned the singing of the Nigerian national anthem in schools across the region.

In a New Year address by its Head of Directorate Mazi Chika Edoziem through its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, on Monday, IPOB said the ban would take effect from April.

3. Dowen College to remain Closed – Lagos State Government

The Lagos State Government has said Dowen College will remain closed even as schools in the state resume academic activities on January 4.

An assistant director of the public affairs unit, Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal, said the school will not be joining others to resume until investigations into the death of Sylvester Oromoni reaches an advanced stage.

4. Police uncovers illegal security outfit killing people in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an illegal security outfit where people are killed and buried in shallow graves in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The uncovering saw four suspects arrested.

Also recovered were 18 expended cartridges, charms, eight dummy wooden guns, human skeletons, a banner with the inscription of the name of the outfit; ‘Citizen For Peace and First Aid Mission of Nigeria’, and the outfit’s operational Golf car with plate number USR 158 HP.

  1. Hausa Scrap Metal Collectors Ablaze For Killing Youth in Akwa Ibom.

Angry youths of Afaha Oku, Ikpa community, in Uyo local government area of Akwa Ibom State, has set two Hausa metal collectors, ablaze.

The mob action followed the killing of a youth identified as Anietie by the scrap collectors.

The duo was said to have entered the compound of Anietie to steal some items around 9 am when many of the residents in the area had gone to church.

Anietie reportedly caught them in the act and was beaten to a coma before dying on the way to the hospital.

News of the death of Anietie led to the setting ablaze of the scrap metal collectors.

6. Bandits Leader, Bello Turji Releases 52 Kidnap Victims

A self-acclaimed bandits leader and kidnap kingpin, Bello Turji has set free about 52 of his victims.

The released victims were said to have been in captivity for far too long.

Turji is the arrowhead of killings and kidnappings around Shinkafi – Sabon Birni and Isah local government areas of Zamfara and Sokoto states

7. MKO Abiola’s challenger Bashir Tofa is dead

Alhaji Bashir Othman Tofa, The Presidential Candidate of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) in the June 12, 1993 election, is dead.

According to family sources, Tofa died in the early hours of Monday after an illness.

  1. FG Set to lift the ban on Twitter

The Nigerian federal government is set to lift the ban on Twitter as the social media giant is said to have met six conditions imposed on it.

According to the Technical Committee raised by the government to resolve the impasse between the two parties, it is fine-tuning the offers by Twitter before making final recommendations to President Muhammad Buhari.

9. 2023: Nigerians should support Osibanjo

A former spokesman to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Broadcast Media, Hafiz Kawu, has said that Vice President Yemi Osibanjo is the best person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Kawu, now a lawmaker representing Tarauni Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives stated this at a press conference, Monday in Kano.

He said since Tinubu was yet to declare for the race, Osibanjo remains a credible candidate for the job.

10. I rejected money to accept Uba’s victory

Former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige has disclosed he was offered money to accept the victory of the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the just concluded governorship election, Senator Andy Uba.

The minister of Labour and Employment said he was aware that no primary election took place to nominate Uba as the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state but some people were offering him money to accept that the election went well.
