The Ijaw Youth Council, Diebiri Clan, has described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a symbol of inclusion, fairness and equity.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Morris Esegha, the group expressed utter believe in the administration of the former Speaker of the Delta State Assembly.

The statement also called on Oborevwori to consider the plight of the Diebiri people in the face of immense marginalisation.

The statement titled ‘OBOREVWORI: A DELTA OF INCLUSION, FAIRNESS AND EQUITY IS HERE’, reads;

“We the leadership of the IJAW YOUTH COUNCIL (IYC)- DIEBIRI CLAN STRUCTURE after a wider consultation with critical stakeholders, congratulate our brand new Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and task him to expedite the process of the resettlement of our Kingdom back to its ancestral headquarter.

“Also, we believe the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff will characterise fairness, inclusion and equity, therefore, we appeal for our Governor to handsomely reward the people of Diebiri with good political offices, reason being that, our people have been unfettered contributors to the PDP with particular reference to his resounding electoral victory in the last gubernatorial election.

“It is indeed also very pertinent for us to congratulate our outgoing Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for finishing strong and ensuring that Diebiri people benefit from the scheme of governance through infrastructure development and amenities with particular reference to the Health Centre awarded to Diebiri Clan.

“As a Kingdom, we have been loyal to the PDP, that is even with regard to our economic contributions, yet we have not had proper political inclusion and participation, hence, we call on the Governor to review and reflect on this soberly.

“Although the DESOPADEC Board has been constituted, thus, we congratulate the Ijaws on the BOARD.

“However, it is not a news that the outgone DESOPADEC board, as Diebiri people we were scheming for inclusion as a result to our production quantum, but we were denied.

“As a people we will continue to promote peace and support policies that will better oil producing communities, but our Governor must note that an hungry man is an angry man. We are the fifth highest producers of crude oil in Ijaw extraction but yet to be appointed in DESOPADEC BOARD.

“It is on this note, we once again urge our Governor to ensure that our people are rewarded politically as a result to our multiplicities of economic contributions and political commitment to the State and recently to his electoral victory because our Governor elect is a leader of equity, fairness and of course an advocate of political inclusion.”
