Robbers Attack UBA Bullion Van, Cart Away Cash in Delta

A gang of armed robbers on Thursday hijacked a bullion van belonging to the United Bank for Africa, carting away an undisclosed amount of cash in the process.

Daily Report Nigeria gathered that the bullion van was attacked by the gang along Otor-Owhe on the Ughelli-Asaba road, Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The robbers shot sporadically and seized the van as bullets bore holes on the vehicle’s windscreen.

A resident confirmed to newsmen that the robbers operated without any challenge from security operatives.

However, the Delta state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident, said there was no casualty.

He said, “Yes, the bullion van was attacked, but no casualty was recorded. I am waiting for an official report from the DPO to ascertain the true incident. But nobody died in the operation and efforts are ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.”

Edafe noted that the hoodlums only carted away condemned currencies “but escaped with gunshot injuries after a gun duel with our men.”

Edafe’s statement reads in full;

On 27/01/2022 at about 1045hrs, Policemen on UBA Specie Escort from Warri to Asaba were ambushed by heavily armed hoodlums numbering about ten in two Seinna Vehicles along Ughelli/Ozoro Expressway, Otor-Owhe while they were on their way to transport cash from Asaba to Warri. In the ensued gun duel, one Policeman and the driver of the bullion van were injured.

However, no live was lost but some of the hoodlums were fatally injured and were taken away by their gang members while the Bullion Van was recovered and taken to the Police station.

Further development will be communicated. Meanwhile, the incident is currently being investigated while manhunt for the hoodlums is ongoing.
