Students Turn Back as Delta State Polytechnic Enforces ‘no bra, no entry’

The Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area, has implemented a strict dress code for students and staff.

The enforcement began on Friday, after hundreds of students, mostly females, were turned away from campus for not wearing bras and underwear.

The management also extended the ‘war on indecent dressing’ to employees who wear torn trousers and braless clothing.

The Polytechnic administration had repeatedly warned against inappropriate clothing and had even pasted posters warning against low waist, spaghetti, open chest, torn jeans, short skirts, bump shorts, and the like.

As a result, the administration directed its security department to monitor students and staff members who refused to put on underwear in order to give the school a bad name.

In enforcing the directive on Friday, the administration barred some students who were caught breaking the rule from attending lectures.

Confirming the report, the Polytechnic’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, Manfred Oyibogbeye, told journalists that the institution is only conducting sensitization to discourage indecent dressing.

“It is not a no bra, no entry policy.” The school is only conducting sensitization in order to discourage inappropriate dress. “There will be a measure later to sanction those who break the rules,” he said.

Meanwhile, some obstinate students are said to have protested the policy, which they see as an infringement on their civil liberties.

“How would the school administration know who wears underwear and who does not?” “It’s an insult to me, and the school administration should stop the move immediately,” one off-campus student said.

Other students, on the other hand, expressed support for the school administration’s implementation of the dress code.

“I’m against such negative dressing trending on campus and distracting students, teaching and non-teaching staff,” a concerned student who requested anonymity said.

It’s not the right kind of dressing. How can a mature girl dress like this? Some are even transparent, requiring no underwear. That is why they are raped by men. They even divert the attention of lecturers and others. I’m not sure they’ve come to study. They are, after all ‘Yahoo girls.’
