Nigerian singer Teniola Apata, better known as Teni, has addressed the criticism she received after sharing a video where she was seen prostrating to greet well-known businessman and socialite, Ibrahim Egungbohun Dende, aka IBD Dende, on a recent flight.
The backlash came after Teni posted the video on her X account on Friday, with many criticizing her for showing respect to someone who has been accused of smuggling activities.
In response on Sunday morning, Teni explained that she wasn’t aware of any criminal allegations against IBD Dende. She noted that he was kind to her back in 2014, before she became famous, and she’s always respected him since then.

The “Askamaya” singer made it clear that she does not support criminal activity and believes the law should handle such matters. She wrote, “I met IBD [Dende] in 2014, and he was so good to me, even before I gained fame. So when I see him, it’s always love. I genuinely had no idea about any criminal accusations against him. I do not support criminals, so let the law take its course.”
