A heavily pregnant woman and her child have been crushed to death by a tanker ladened with Premium Motor Spirit in Agbor, Delta State.

The unidentified woman had gone to pick her two kids from school when the sad incident took place.

One of the kids, fortunately, survived the crash, but the pregnant mother and another child died, as well as one other victim.

The incident, which occurred around 4 pm Adjacent Okoh Junction, along old Lagos-Asaba Road on Monday, also left several vehicles damaged.

According to eyewitnesses, tragedy struck when the tanker lost control while descending from College Junction and heading towards Traffic Junction, ramming into other road users, and leaving the woman, a child, and one other person dead.

It was a gory scene as the victims’ bodies littered the road in pieces, while several others sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital.

A minimum of 5 vehicles were also left damaged by the incident, while a signpost of the St. John Anglican Church was uprooted.

It took the efforts of people at the scene of the accident to stop the tanker from causing further damage as they threw wedges to put it to a halt.

The Chairman Ika North East Council, Victor Ebonka, who visited the scene described the incident as tragic and sympathized with the families of the victims.

The Owa Division Police Officer, Owa Oyibu Police Division, SP Monday Osayi and his men, officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission, as well as officials of Red Cross were all at the scene to manage the situation.
