Original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have demanded the judiciary to give them a governor three Senators, House of Representatives members, and State House of Assembly members.

The demand is a direct response to the judgment by the Presidential Petition Tribunal Court on Wednesday, which declared that Abuja was on par with other states.

The court ruled that the Federal Capital Territory does not hold a superior status to any state.

In light of the ruling, the inhabitants have demanded to have adequate representation in government. They firmly believe that this step will ensure a fair and equitable political system for all residents of the FCT.

Daniel Bwala, former spokesman of the Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation said made the declaration.

Taking to his official Twitter handle, Bwala said:

“Following the Presidential Election Petition Court’s judgment which states to the effect that Abuja is just like any other state; I am hearing that the natives of Abuja are approaching the court for an order mandating FGN to let them produce their Governor and 3 Senators amongst other peculiarities of a state. What is good for Guinea is also good for Uganda.lollllllllll. ”

The tribunal declared that the Labour Party’s “interpretation of 134(2)(b) of the constitution is completely fallacious, if not outrightly ridiculous.”

Section 134(1) and (2) of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended) states that a presidential candidate must win or achieve a majority of the votes cast in a presidential election involving two or more candidates.

It added that a presidential candidate must at least secure 25 per cent in two-thirds of the 36 States and FCT to meet the constitutional requirement to be declared as duly elected as President of Nigeria.

Recall that Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi was the only candidate who secured up to 25 per cent of the votes in the FCT in the February 25 election.

He received about 59 per cent of the votes cast in the FCT, while neither President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) (19%) nor President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored.

Tinubu got 19 per cent, while Atiku got 15 percent votes in Abuja.
