Walid Jibrin’s Resignation Not Enough For South – PDP Presidential Aspirant

Sam Ohuabunwa, a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, has described the resignation of Senator Walid Jibrin as Board of Trustees chairman as not enough to placate aggrieved members, especially those of the south.

Daily Report recalls that Jibrin announced his resignation, attributing it to need for the party to ensure victory in the 2023 elections.

Prior to Jibrin’s resignation, calls were rife for the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu to resign over a structural imbalance in the leadership of the party.

There were also insinuations that Jibrin’s resignation was a move to pacify aggrieved southern members calling for the removal of Ayu.

To the dismay of the aggrieved southerners, Ayu received the backing of the National Executive Committee of the party to continue as the chairman.

A vote of confidence was passed on Ayu by a combined total of 397 NEC members, including the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the party’s 97th NEC meeting.

Quizzed on if Jibrin’s resignation was enough to pacify aggrieved members calling for Ayu’s resignation, Ohuabunwa said no.

He however, lauded Jibrin for displaying honorable character towards the nation’s diversity.

Ohuabunwa stressed that all the South needs is inclusiveness, equity and fair play.

He said;

“No way! But Walid Jibrin has shown himself an honorable man who is sensitive to the diversity of our nation, wants to reconcile the party and improve the chances of the party in winning the presidential election. What the South wants is inclusiveness, equity and fair play.”
