BREAKING: ‘I Am Not in A Hurry to Die’, Yakubu Gowon Debunks Death Rumours

Former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon has debunked rumours of his death.

Daily Report Nigeria reports Gowon made the debunker following rumours of his death on Monday.

However, in a terse statement by personal aide, Adeyeye Ajayi, Gowon announced he was alive and doing well.

“I am still around and well. I am not in a hurry,” he said in a statement on Monday night.

Also, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Delta State, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi poured cold water on the purported death of Gowon.

Gbagi described the reports as the “handiwork of mischief makers.”

The general served as head of state of Nigeria from 1966 to 1975, and presided over the infamous Nigerian Civil War.

Born in October 1934, Gowon hails from Lur, a small village in the present Kanke Local Government Area of Plateau State.

He joined the Nigerian Army in 1954 and was trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England. He rose to the rank of general in 1966.
