10-Year-Old Girl Shot Death as Cultist Clash in Kwara

A 10-year-old girl has been shot dead by a group of suspected cultists during a clash in Kwara State

It was gathered that the girl, identified as Mariam, was killed when two cult members engaged in a battle for supremacy in the state.

According to eyewitnesses, the fight broke out at Oja Oba, an ancient market in Ilorin, Kwara state, when suspected members from Eiye and Aye confraternities stormed the marker and started shooting sporadically.

One of the gun fire hit Mariam and her three-year-old brother. Mariam however lost so much blood and passed on.

It was gathered that a cult member had trailed a member of the rival gang to the market, where they opened fire at him.

The duo, Mariam and Abdulraheem, were reportedly hit by a stray bullet when they were with their mother who sells bread in the market. A young man identified as Sulyman was also said to have been hacked to death during the clash.

Confirming the incident, spokesperson of the state police command said investigations have commenced on the incident, adding that he wasn’t aware of the fatalities.
