Bundesliga: Taiwo Awoniyi on target as Union Berlin Beats Wolfsburg

Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi added to his Bundesliga goal account for the season as Union Berlin defeated Wolfsburg 2-0.

Die Eisernen was put to a lead as the Nigerian striker converted Genki Haraguchi’s assist four minutes into the second half.

The 24-year-old whose style of play was likened to that of Rashidi Yekini (Nigeria’s all-time highest goalscorer) had an opening goal for his side as Die Wölfe suffered loss on Saturday, 16th of October.

The man who spent almost of his senior career on loan until this season, gave the hosts a lead in the first four minutes of the 2nd half by converting Genki Haraguchi’s fine assist.

Sheraldo Becker of Union Berlin however, crowned the victory with a fine header in the 82nd minute through Andreas Voglsammer’s aerial pass.

The Ilorin-born forward who made his debut for the senior team of Nigeria in a 1-0 loss to CAR on Thursday had delivered a man of the match display against Mainz prior to the international break.

He therefore continued his fine form having found the net a 6th times in 8 matches this season.

Only Robert Lewandowski and Erling Halland have scored more goals than the big striker.

The victory has however, elevated them to the 5th spot with 2 points ahead of Saturday’s opponent who sit 6th on the Bundesliga table.
