Hon Uche Anya, the chairman of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Agency (ECTDA), disclosed this when he visited the scene of the collapse to offer condolences.

During Anya’s visit, he discovered that the building, originally approved for animal husbandry, had been converted into a residential structure.

The structure, he revealed, consisted of forty-four rooms, and was housing over 200 people.

The chairman criticized the unacceptable state of the property’s fence and emphasized the urgent need for improved safety measures.

He said:

We immediately responded to the incident upon receiving the information. Unfortunately, four children lost their lives in this tragic event.

“The construction of this building was irresponsible. It was never meant to be occupied by human beings. I urge you to visit the site and witness it for yourselves,” he told newsmen.
