Ambrose Ali Varsity Sacks 13 Staff For S3xual Abuse, Extortion

The management of Edo state-owned Ambrose Ali University (AAU) has sacked thirteen academic and non-academic staff of the school.

The affected staff were sacked on alleged offences including falsified age, fraud, misconduct, extortion, and s3xual harassment.

The school’s Vice Chancellor
Prof Asomwan Sunny Adagbonyin, revealed the development while presenting the committee’s report to members of the AAU Special Intervention Team (SIT) Monday.

Adagbonyin stated university decided to terminate the appointment of the offenders following the recommendations of the institution’s disciplinary committee which find them guilty of the offences.

The VC added that the disciplinary committee had given the affected staff a fair hearing, saying “The criminal aspect of the disengage staff offence should be reported to security operatives.”

He said that a lecturer and an associate professor were dismissed for collecting unapproved levies from students.

Prof Adagbonyin said the lecturer who was the head of nursing science was recommended for a sack. He was found guilty of extorting students of thirty-two thousand naira and fifty-two thousand naira respectively.

Others were from the Medical Laboratory Sciences, Nursing Department, Engineering Department, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Political Science, as well as the former Director of the university’s farm.

The VC stated the school also dismissed a lecturer who was indicted for s3xual harassment.

He said:

The lecturer had claimed to have only make advances, but he went to the said girl’s church to plead for forgiveness.

“Out of the 209 disciplinary cases received, the USDC has concluded 132 while 77 cases representing were pending.

“The victims were protected and reassigned to another lecturer.”
