Spanish La Liga giants, Barcelona have sacked Ronald Koeman has coach.

The dutch manager was shown the way out following Wednesday night’s 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano.

The defeat leaves the Catalan club ninth on the La Liga table.

Barcelona have only managed to secure two from their last seven league games under Koeman.

The run includes losses to Real Madrid in the El Clasico on at the Camp Nou. They also lost to Atletico Madrid with Luiz Suarez scoring in a 2-0 defeat.

The current run of poor form has endangered the club’s chances of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League, a reality that may be to hard on Barcelona owing to the club’s financial woes.

A club statement announcing the sack of Ronald Koeman read;

“FC Barcelona has dismissed Ronald Koeman as coach of the first team tonight.
“The president of the club, Joan Laporta, has informed him after the defeat against Rayo Vallecano. Ronald Koeman will say goodbye to the squad this Thursday at the Ciudad Deportiva.

“The FC Barcelona wants to thank him for his services and wishes him good luck in his career.”

Barcelona legend, Xavi Hernandez, who currently manages Qatari club Al Sadd, has been touted as front-line candidates to replace Koeman.

River Plate coach Marcel Gallardo is also reportedly among those under consideration to replace the dutch manager.
