He added that the gunmen intercepted the bus, ordered all passengers and the driver out of the vehicle, and diverted them into a nearby bush.

He said:

Yesterday (Wednesday) night, they kidnapped nine people at the boundary between Evekwu and Rumuodogo.”

The hoodlums had fled with their captives before the arrival of policemen at the scene.

Before the policemen at Elibrada junction came (arrive the scene), the boys (kidnappers) have left with the boys inside the bush. Even the policemen at Rumuj ran away.”

However, the spokesman of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said she was yet to get the report of the incident when contacted.

It was gathered that the Emuoha-Kalabari road has been under siege by gunmen, who hijack vehicles and kidnap travellers at will.
