IPOB Raises Concerns Over the alleged Torture of Kanu by DSS

IPOB

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) warned on Wednesday that its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is being tortured by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.

IPOB also accused the DSS of flagrant violations of Mazi Kanu’s human rights, torture, and denying him access to religious materials since his alleged kidnapping from Kenya on June 19, 2021, until now.

A statement by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, entitled, “Our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is passing through unimaginable torture in DSS custody” warned that if anything untoward happens to its leader, Nigeria will not be the same again.

“The global family of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, wish to bring to the attention of the entire world that our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, is currently subjected to severe torture and humiliation in the hands of the Nigerian Government at the Abuja headquarters of the Department of Security Services, DSS, where he is detained,” read the statement.

We condemn the torture and flagrant violation of his human rights by the DSS.” They have been touring him since his abduction from Kenya on June 19, 2021. They have forbidden him from accessing his religious materials.

They have never allowed him to change his clothes, while the same hypocritical government is sewing new clothes for bandits and mass murderers who have allegedly committed crimes.

“Since his rendition to Nigeria, our leader has been subjected to unimaginable torture.” Further revelations of what he has been through since then will astound the world.

“The world should take note that the Nigerian and Kenyan governments violated international law and must be held accountable for their atrocities against an individual fighting for his people’s freedom.”

“Self-determination is a universal law and right guaranteed by the UN and domesticated by Nigerian law.” Our people, both at home and in the diaspora, must band together and recognize that they are despised throughout Nigeria, and that the only solution to our plight is Biafra’s freedom and independence.

We would like to issue a strong warning that if anything untoward happens to our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Nigeria will never be the same again, if it ever exists at all. The international community must look into our case and grant us freedom because Biafrans have suffered greatly at the hands of this terrorist nation known as Nigeria.

“The international community, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and all diplomatic missions in Abuja, Nigeria, should persuade the Nigerian government to unconditionally release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to avoid the disaster that Nigeria will be if anything untoward happens to him in the DSS detention facility.”
