IYC Tasks Ondo, Edo, Delta Governments on Better Education Measures

…announces education program

The Ijaw Youth Council, Western Zone, has called on the governments of Edo, Ondo and Delta States to implement better education measures for schools across Ijaw areas in the states.

The call was made at the inaugural students congress conveyed by the leadership office of the Student Representative, Western Zone, which held on Friday, July 15, 2022 in Warri, Delta State.

The congress presided over by Comrade Ekereke Tamaraukuro, the Student Representative, was attended by students from the three states that sum up the Western Zone.

Issues discussed amongst others, include the need for the Delta State Government to come to the aid of secondary and primary schools in Ijaw communities.

According to Ekereke, the schools have been left abandoned with no trained teachers and necessary equipments.

“We call on the Delta State Government led by His Excellency Sen Dr Ifeayin Arthur Okowa to as a matter of urgency, start proper accreditation of courses, building of the permanent site and properly fund the School of Marine Technology, Burutu, which is the only Tertiary Institution situated in Ijaw land in Delta State.

“The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu and that of his counterpart in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki are also called upon, to come to the aid of the Ijaws in their State, as Institutions in our Areas in their State are left with low numbers of Government trained teachers and no necessary equipment,” he said.

On the 2023 general elections, Ekereke advised Ijaw students not to allow themselves to be used as a tool for rigging election or be used as thugs.

He further promised to lead the over ten thousand students across the three states to vote for competent leaders who will protect the interest of the Ijaw Nation and the students Community.

High point of the Congress was the official unveiling of a forthcoming program organized by the office of the Students Representative IYC Western.

The program will feature an awareness rally against political thuggery and other social vices, lectures, award presentations. amongst other activities.

Comrade Ekesman Jeff Areweremi was appointed Chairman, Programme Organising Committe for the program, Jolowo Bunmi as Secretary, Comrade Gloria Ayedi as Spokesperson, Comrade Ebiowei Sylvester, Comrade Kimipere Emmanuel Olatunji, and Comrade Ofeyeju Douboerimini James as members.

Comrade Layefa David also emerged as the Chairman local Organising Committe, with Comrade, Paul Kemezi, Comrade Deborah Tam, Comrade Ebitonmor Abraham Comrade Kester Denyefa Ubebe, Comrade Ability Tuma as Members.

The program tagged “Education: As The Panacea of Good Governance” is billed to hold on October 8, 2022, at Bomadi community, headquarters of Bomadi Local Government Area, Delta State.
