Prof Abass Olajire Slumps, Dies

Abass Olajire, a distinguished professor at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso, on Friday, fell and died.

According to university reports, the Professor of Industrial/Environmental Chemistry died on Friday during Juma’at prayer.

According to family sources, the late professor and would be buried on Saturday in Ibadan, in accordance with Islamic customs.

According to a ranking released by Elsevier B. V (Netherlands) and a team of researchers led by Prof. John P.A. loannidis of Stanford University in the United States, Olajire is among the world’s top scholars.

In March 2021, he was ranked 128th out of 66,925 of the worlds greatest scientists.

Lekan Fadeyi, LAUTECH’s Public Relations Officer, also reported the professor’s death to The PUNCH.

Fadeyi said, “The University Management is devastated at the sudden death of renowned researcher and erudite Professor of Petroleum Chemistry, Abass Abiola Olajire.

“Acting Vice-Chancellor, LAUTECH, Professor Mojeed Olaide Liasu, who became perplexed at the receipt of the sad news, said Professor Abass was a shining star in the institution, described his passage as a big blow.

“He prayed Almighty Allah to overlook his transgressions and forgive his sins, preparatory to granting him a space in Aljanah Firdaous.”

In 1994, the LAUTECH branch of the National Association of Mathematics Students awarded Olajire the Best Lecturer award.

He was a member of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, the Chemical Society of Nigeria (advisor Lautech branch since 1996), the Oluyole Club, the New York Academy of Sciences, and the Chemical Society of Nigeria (advisor Lautech branch since 1996).
