LG Boss in Yobe, Lawan Dies Hours to Swearing-in

Barely 24 hours to his swearing-in occasion, the newly appointed caretaker committee chairman, Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, Hon Lawan Gana has been confirmed dead.

Gana reportedly died on Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru after a brief illness.

The deceased was among the 17 local government caretaker management committee chairmen to be sworn in on Friday, May 26, by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Mamman Muhammad, Director General of Press and Media Affairs to Yobe State Governor, made the announcement at an empowerment event organised by the state Commissioner of the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment, and Employment Generation.

Gana was a well-respected member of the community, having served as caretaker chairman of Karasuwa LGA for six months before being reappointed to the position.

He was also a former member of the Yobe State House of Assembly, representing Karasuwa from 2003 to 2007 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Checks equally revealed the late politician was also a PDP gubernatorial candidate in 2015 but defected to APC in 2019.

Despite his political affiliations,
Gana was a beloved figure in the community and his passing was a great loss, according to reports.
