2. Gunmen kidnap former governorship aspirant, ASUU Chairman in Plateau

Kemi Nshe, a former governorship aspirant in the 2019 election in Plateau State has been kidnapped by gunmen.

Nshe, a former chairman of Shendam Local Government Area and chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party, was kidnapped alongside the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Plateau State University, Bokkos, Dr Monday Hassan.

3. Sylvester Oromoni was not murdered – Police

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu has revealed that the autopsy result does not show that late Sylvester Oromoni Junior, was murdered.

The Commissioner’s announcement has exonerated the workers and suspected killers of the JS2 pupil of Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos.

CP Odumosu however, noted that investigation was still ongoing, even as the police awaits results of the toxicology test that needs to be conducted on the corpse.

4. Igboho’s Lawyer Resigns

Pelumi Olajengbesi, a lawyer who farmed a part of the legal team defending Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Igboho, has withdrawn from defending the activist.

Olajengbesi, the Managing Partner at Law Corridor, took to his Facebook page to announce his withdrawal on Sunday.

His resignation follows an allegation by the Yoruba Self-Determination Groups, Ilana Omo Oodua (IOO), that the lawyer does not speak for Igboho, nor is he involved in the Yoruba Nation self-determination struggle.

6. Olubadan if Ibadan Dies, Buried the same day

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji, on Sunday died at aged 93.

The Olubadan breathed his last at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo state.

He was buried around 4 pm the same Sunday at his palace in Ibadan.

7. Wike backs Bauchi Governor for Presidency

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has thrown his weight behind Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State to become the next Nigeria president in 2023.

Wike, stated this while fielding questions from journalists during a one-day visit to Bauchi on New Year’s Day.

  1. Senator Ogba declares for Ebonyi governorship race

Senator Obinna Ogba, a lawmaker representing Ebonyi Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has declared his intention to run for Governor of the state in 2023.

The Senate Committee chairman on Youth mobilization and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said his intention is premised on the need to curb the massive poverty ravaging the people of the State.

The lawmaker announced his declaration during a media brief in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.

9. 2023: Tinubu will run for Presidency

Abdulmumini Jibrin Kofa, the Director-General of Bola Tinubu Support Group Management Council, has said that the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, will contest in the 2023 Presidential elections.

Speaking in an International Press Conference to start up the 2022 New Year, Kofa, a former House of Representatives member said he had full authority and mandate to announce Tinubu’s stance.

He also said the former Lagos State Governor has the edge and credibility to defeat any candidate of any party.

10. Gunmen kidnap wife, child of Enugu Commissioner’s sibling

The wife and a child of Mr. Eugene Edeoga, a younger brother to the Enugu State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Chijioke Edeoga have been abducted.

The mother and her child were kidnapped inside their house at Eke Market in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday night, January 1, 2022.

Chief Godswill Ndukwe, a community leader confirmed the incident, saying the Nigeria Police Force has begun a search for the victims.
