Police Kill Kidnapper, Rescue Victim in Imo

The police in Imo has killed a suspected kidnapper while trying to rescue a victim that was kidnapped on July 1.

The victim was said to have been kidnapped by the deceased and his gang.

A statement released by the media aide to the Imo state police commissioner, CSP Mike Abattam, states that “on July 1, the 46-year-old victim, Uzondu Kaka, a native of Umunuma Okohia Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen who trailed and kidnapped him at the entrance of his house in Umunuma Okohia Isiala Mbano LGA of Imo State.”

Abattam said that the Gunmen stormed the victim’s house with a blue Four Runner SUV without a registration number, and took him to an unknown destination.

On receipt of this information on 5/7/2021 at about 1430 hours, the command tactical teams after gathering technical intelligence was able to trace the location where the Kidnappers used as their den in the forest at Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State.

Immediately the hoodlums saw the tactical team, they engaged in a gun battle, in which one of the suspects was killed and the others ran away with gun shot injuries, while the victim was rescued unhurt.

One of the operatives of the tactical teams who sustained gunshot injury was rushed to the hospital where he is presently receiving treatment.

About five live cartridges, one pump action gun, six expended cartridges and sellotape was recovered at the scene.

The rescued victim then informed the tactical teams that he was robbed of the sum of one Hundred and fifty thousand Naira, his ATM card and other valuables.

The corpse of the dead suspect was later deposited at the federal Medical Centre (FMC)Owerri , Imo State.”Abattam’s statement read

He added that efforts are on top gear to arrest the fleeing suspects with gunshot injuries.

He also appealed to every residents of the state to report anyone found with a gun shot to the nearest police station.
