Policeman ‘Mistakenly’ Shoots Colleague to Death in Rivers

A policeman, Inspector, Nelson Abuante has “mistakenly” shot his colleague, Inspector Monday Gbaramana to death in Rivers State.

It was said that the incident occurred during an attempt to arrest a suspect in Rivers State, specifically at Nyogor-Lueku in the Khana Local Government Area.

Both Abuante and Gbaramana, who were attached to the Taabaa Division, had gone to Nyogor-Lueku to apprehend one Mr Akere Akpobari based on allegations made against him by his mother.

Unfortunately, Akere resisted arrest, resulting in a physical altercation between him and the two Inspectors.

Regrettably, while en route to the hospital, the car transporting them ran out of fuel, leading to Inspector Monday’s untimely death.

Abuante tragically took his life thereafter.

A source said:
Immediately Abuante discovered that his colleague had died, he carried his gun and shot himself to death.”

The bodies of both officers were said to have been taken to the mortuary for autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko has confirmed the incident and assured the public that investigations are underway.

Iringe-Koko said:

Yes, the incident happened. We are investigating to unravel what really happened.”
