UEFA is poised to expand the squad size for this summer’s European Championship to 26 players.
The decision came after a vote on Monday approved the increase in squad size.
The idea was first proposed during a meeting of all the national team coaches in Dusseldorf two weeks ago.

However, during a meeting of UEFA’s national competitions committee on Monday, the delegates voted to increase the squad size from the usual 23 players to 26.
Enlarged squads were previously used during Euro 2021 to help teams manage the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite the vote, the decision isn’t final until the UEFA Executive Committee (EXCO) formally approves it. This approval is expected to be a mere formality, essentially confirming the change.
