Yobe North: Machina Kicks as Lawan is Declared Senatorial Candidate
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan and Bachir Machina

A new twist has been added to the battled for the authentic candidate of All Progressives Congress for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 2023 election.

This is even as the Bashir Machina Campaign Organisation berated the Yobe State Commissioner for Environment, Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa for declaring Senator Ahmad Lawan as APC senatorial candidate for Yobe North.

In a statement signed by the spokesperson of the organization, Husaini Mohammed Isah, the group played down the commissioner’s comments during an event by the government in honour of the President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan in Gashu’a town.

According to the statement, the new Electoral Act did not give power to a Commissioner of Environment to declare someone a candidate.

“We are concerned because Sidi Yakubu Karasuwa has unwittingly exposed himself to ridicule.

“As a cabinet member in Governor Buni’s administration, the Commissioner for Environment ought to have taken a queue from him boss by avoiding any utterance that will be viewed as divisive, prejudice and misleading”, he said.

“Specifically, Section 33 of that Act unambiguously stated how a validly nominated candidate can be substituted.

“What Sidi needs to understand is that the law was not made just for fun.

The organization also faulted the move by some person to prevent loyalists to Machina from attending a project commissioning Governor Mai Buni.

“This action in itself is utter disregard of the Constitution of Nigeria which gives every citizen the right to move and associate.

“We are calling on the Commissioner of Police, Yobe State Command to call his men to order before the matter escalates.
