2021 AFCON: “We Lost to Nigeria Because The Referee Didn’t Do His Job’ – Queiroz Blasts Gasama

Egypt manager, Carlos Quieroz has revealed that his side’s opening defeat was caused by poor officiating.

The Portuguese manager has deplored failure of referee Bakary Gassama to award a penalty to them when Nigeria’s Moses Simon fouled Zizo inside the box.

Meanwhile, the former Real Madrid coach has previously blamed his team’s lackadaisical attitude for their defeat.

However, the 68-year-old hopes his side will make up for the loss in the second match.

The longest-serving manager in the history of the Iran national team also hopes the officiating will be fair when his side competes with Guinea-Bissau on Saturday, 15th.

Queiroz said ahead of Guinea Bissau match during the presser: “I apologize to Nigeria and Nigerians, the fact is the referee doesn’t the their job, VAR inclusive. It’s totally unfair.”

“The reality is the Egyptian needs to press. We lost because the referee did not do his job. Bad decision of the referee cost us the game, probably this won’t be the situation in our next game.”

“He, however, commended the Super Eagles the high pressing game.”

“It’s not the responsibility of Nigerians, they pressed. We will rise. Moving forward, winning the next.”
