Aviation Workers Announce Nationwide Protest

Aviation unions have ordered their workers to stage a peaceful nationwide protest on Monday, September 12, 2022, around all airports in Nigeria.

This was confirmed in a statement issued jointly by the unions on Sunday and made available to newsmen.

A directive to the workers signed by the general secretaries of the unions; Ochema Aba (NUATE), Francis Akinjole (ATSSSAN), Abdul Razaq Saidu (ANAP), Sikiru Waheed (AUPCTRE), and Umoh Ofonime (NAAPE), reads;

“All aviation workers nationwide are hereby directed to embark on peaceful rallies and public demonstrations at all airports in Nigeria in demand for the expunging of obnoxious essential services clauses from the bills/Acts of the aviation agencies.

“All branches of the unions should make their internal arrangements to ensure full compliance with this directive.”

It was directed to the National Union of Air Transport Employees; Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria; Association of Nigerian Association Professionals; Amalgamated Unions of Public Corporations; Civil Service Technical & Recreational Services Employees, and the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers.

Other listed agencies were the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and the Accident Investigation Bureau.
