Emefiele Arraigned in Court, Pleads Not Guilty

The suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The Federal Government, which is prosecuting Emefiele for his alleged gun possession.

He arrived at approximately 9:20 am, accompanied by his lawyers who arrived earlier.

Emefiele is facing a two-count charge, accusing him of possessing a single-barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a license on June 15.

The Federal Government alleged the offense violated Section 4 of the Firearms Act, 2004, and was punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

Additionally, Emefiele is accused of possessing 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without a license, which is contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

The Suspended CBN Governor however pleaded not guilty to the charge filed against him.
