INEC Voids Binani’s Declaration as Winner of Adamawa Guber Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has voided the declaration of Senator Aishatu Binani as winner of the Adamawa governorship election.

Daily Report Nigeria reports that Binani was declared winner of Saturday’s supplementary poll by the State’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ari Hudu.

However, the electoral umpire has voided the declaration by Hudu, adding that collation of results and other processes had not been concluded.

INEC also said the declaration of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was an usurpation of powers of the Returning Officer, and that Hudu’s action had no effect whatsoever.

This was stated in a tweet by INEC’s
National Commissioner, Information & Voter Education, on Sunday afternoon.

The commission also suspended further collation of results as all critical officials involved were ordered to report at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja immediately.

“The attention of the Commission has been drawn to a purported declaration of winner in the Adamawa Governorship election by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) even when the process has clearly not been concluded.

“2. The action of the REC is a usurpation of the power of the Returning Officer. It is null, void and of no effect.

“Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.

“3. The REC, Returning Officer and all involved are hereby invited to the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja immediately. Detailed statement to follow shortly,” Okoye stated.
