Meanwhile, the Northern Irish manager on Thursday’s match, played Ndidi as a central defender as against his usual position due to Jonny Evans’ injury.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers star put Liverpool ahead with a goal in the 34th minute following a header from Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk which was first blocked by the opponent shot-stopper, Kasper Schmeichel before it bounced back into play.

The 25-year-old Ndidi lost his man, Van Dijk in the build-up to the goal thereby, allowing him to head the ball home only to be saved by the goalie.

That made the former Celtic coach to censure Ndidi for Jota’s opener, claiming that he got caught in the pack.

Rodgers said to BT Sport via BBC: “You have to be tight and organised and when you have the ball, have the courage to play and I thought the boys did that. I think our two centre-halves did great.”

“Wilfred Ndidi got caught in the pack for the first goal and Virgil van Dijk had a free header.”

“It’s been an ongoing problem for us. It is definitely an area we have to improve on.”
