Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), warned police officers in the country on Tuesday to brace themselves for new security challenges ahead of the 2023 general elections.

This was stated by the police chief during the opening ceremony of the Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers in Akwa Ibom.

“Let me re-emphasize that the countdown to the general elections will present new sets of security challenges that will undoubtedly test our professionalism,” Baba said.

We must be adequately prepared as strategic police managers tasked with ensuring a peaceful electoral process. It is also my expectation that this Conference and Retreat will serve as a forum for discussing issues related to our roles in the election campaign.

“May I also take this opportunity to reassure the entire citizens of this great country of our firm determination and clear vision to evolve a new Police Force for the nation,” he continued.

We will continue to investigate all available strategies for ensuring their security and safety.

This is our mission. As a result, it is our responsibility to achieve it.

We, on the other hand, ask for citizens’ continued support in the process.”
