N585m Fraud: Tinubu Orders Investigation of Humanitarian Minister

President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu over an alleged public fund diversion.

Tinubu gave the order through Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, as stated in a press release on Sunday.

The investigation was prompted by allegations of Edu’s involvement in the approval of a disbursement of N585,198,500.00 into a personal account.

A letter, purportedly signed by Edu, instructed the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), Oluwatoyin Madein to transfer the funds to the account of Oniyelu Bridget.

The letter cited a grant for vulnerable groups in four states.

However, Madein’s office clarified that they received the request but did not act on it.

Edu has denied the allegations while stating her commitment to not engage in any misappropriation of government funds.
