NAFDAC Alerts Nigerians of Contaminated Sprite Drink

The National Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) has issued an alert about a contaminated batch of unhealthy Sprite 50cl glass bottles circulating in Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by NAFDAC management, the product was discovered after the agency’s post-sale surveillance division received and investigated consumer complaints.

It stated that more than five cartons of Sprite 50cl glass bottles (date of manufacture: MFD: 180423) from the involved batch (BN: AZ6 22:32) were contaminated with particles.

The statement read:

The affected batch of the unwholesome product has been sampled for laboratory analysis in the NAFDAC laboratory, and the agency has directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to carry out surveillance and mop up the implicated batch of the unwholesome product.”

The agency also directed the company (Nigeria Bottling Limited (Abuja Plant)) to recall the substandard product in the batch involved and report it to NAFDAC for effective monitoring.

NAFDAC called on those in possession of contaminated Sprite 50cl glass bottles to submit their stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.

At the same time, it urged distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and avoid the consumption, sale, or distribution of unhealthy products.
