Okorocha Survives Assassination as Gunmen Attack Convoy

Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha survived an assassination attempt on the Okigwe-Enugu expressway.

The attack occurred on Friday along the Ihube community road in Imo State and resulted in the killing of a police officer.

The deceased officer was among the policemen deployed from the state Government House to accompany Okorocha to the burial ceremony of the mother of the immediate past governor of Imo state, Emeka Ihedioha.

He described the killing of a police officer in Imo State as indeed unfortunate.

He also stated that many individuals vying for the governorship position in the state lack the necessary capabilities to lead.

According to him, during the burial ceremony of Ihedioha’s mother, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State provided vehicles and security personnel to transport Okorocha and his team to Imo State.

However, on their return trip to Enugu, the convoy was attacked after dropping Okorocha off at his Spilbat mansion in Owerri.

Okorocha expressed his disappointment in the fact that he was safe in Enugu only to be attacked and have a security agent killed in his own state.

He said:

I am angry. I am very angry. I am angry because I spent two days in Enugu and nothing happened to me but it is in my own state that the convoy released to me by the governor of Enugu state (a very good man) to attend the burial ceremony of Ihedioha’s mother at Mbaise that was attacked and one policeman killed.

“What is happening in Imo state makes me angry. Many people who are running to govern Imo state are not capable but I have seen one man who the cap fits. When it is time I will speak.”

Furthermore, the aide disclosed that two security agents were kidnapped during the attack. Fortunately, they were released the same day.
