Okuama: ‘Delta Needs Peace to Develop’ Mulade Condemns Killing of Soldiers

Comrade Mulade Sheriff, a peace and development advocate in Delta State, has unequivocally condemned the heinous and barbaric killing of 16 soldiers.

Daily Report Nigeria reported that the soldiers were reportedly on a peace mission to restore law and order in Okuama community embroiled in a dispute with its neighbor, Okoloba.

Mulade also extended his condolences to the Nigerian Army for the “unnecessary” deaths.

The renowned peace and environmental rights activist further appealed to the feuding Okuama and Okoloba communities to lay down their arms and embrace peace.

The National Coordinator of the Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) called upon the military high command and the Delta State Government to initiate an inquiry to hold the perpetrators of the reprehensible act accountable.

Further stressing the need for peace, the activist urged the warring groups to prioritize development and growth for Okuama and Okoloba, who share the same ancestral roots.

He cautioned against falling into the hands of war mongers and instigators, whose livelihoods depend on communal and ethnic crises, positioning themselves as negotiators and leaders.

As an Ijaw leader, Mulade implored the communities, bound by a long history of inter-marriages, to sheath their swords and allow peace to prevail.

According to him, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State requires peace to attract investors, foster economic growth, and create employment opportunities for the state’s youth.
