AFCON 2021: Aubameyang, Two Other Gabon Players Diagnosed With Minor Heart Problem

Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has been removed from Gabon’s squad which headed on Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations after a minor heart problem.

The Gabon striker could not also feature in his country’s tie against Comoros on Monday- their first game of the ongoing tournament.

The 32-year-old missed the game as he was isolated after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Gunner’s former captain who left his club side early after being stripped of captaincy to represent his country at the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations.

His situation is now like jumping from frying pan into fire as his health has not been stable ever since. What a pity!

Also, Mario Lemina who plays as a central midfielder for Ligue 1 club OGC Nice and Axel Meye have the same issue of Covid-19.

In the meantime, the Gabonese federation declared that the trio of Aubameyang, Lemina and Axel would not feature in yesterday’s clash which held at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, due to cardiac lesions.

All three who were diagnosed to have COVID-19 since their arrival in Cameroon have now from the latest development, been battling with minor heart problems by virtues of the deadly illness.

The Gabonese Federation tweeted: “According to the CAF medical commission, the players Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Axel Meye and Mario Lemina, just out of Covid, cannot take part in this match.”

“The examinations would show cardiac lesions. CAF did not want to take any risks.”
